Statement

“In the Land” continues my exploration of the role that we have as caretakers of the land. In particular, I am interested in the relationship between this role and our attitudes to each other. As I worked on my previous collection, “Caretakers”, I came to understand that, if we can live at peace with other people, being good Caretakers of the land is a natural flow-on effect.

“In the Land” seeks to draw the viewers mind to the resources created and concealed in the ground beneath our feet since the beginning of time. To become conscious of the elements used to make the everyday items that we take for granted and to then make the connection to one another.

I am always amazed at how humans have learned to read even the smallest surface clue to what lies beneath - although our methods become ever more sophisticated with developments in technology. What will run our first? Our creative ideas for making our lives easier or the resources that we use to make our ideas a reality? I think we know the answer to that…
