Barely do we give a thought to the secrets hidden in the deep beneath our feet.

The character of New Zealand is intrinsically tied to it’s ever changing landscape.  In our very recent history, the fortitude of New Zealanders has been tested by geological events.   Intense momentary releases of energy that are shaping our land and our people.

I am fascinated with details in creation that are hidden from view by virtue of their location, size or incorporeality.  As I re-imagine these hidden details, I am also celebrating the knowledge that there is so much for us still to discover.  In this work, I explore a secret place as it has been suddenly exposed.  I seek to inspire a heightened awareness in the viewer - for their mind to wander far into the ground beneath their feet.  Considering and questioning the origins and history of the place where they stand.

Description: Felted New Zealand Merino Wool and silk fibres, treated with UV protection

Artwork: 100 cm diameter

Mounted in white tray frame with split baton for hanging.
