Pounamu

SOLD

Pounamu is the Maori name given to several types of hard, durable and highly valued stone found in southern New Zealand. These rocks are also generically known as "greenstone”.

Here I have represented Pounamu still hidden. I am fascinated with the significance that it takes on when it is found and carved into a taonga (treasure). We are created with a yearning to discover the undiscovered, to uncover mysteries in creation and then weave them into the tapestry of human creativity.

50 x 50cm wet felted New Zealand Merino and Silk fibres with 3-dimensional detail.

Mounted in a 60 x 60cm frame behind archival quality UV protective glass, with acid free mount and mats.
