Felt & Light Studio Workshop

NZ$145.00

10am - 2pm

Join me in my home studio in the Bombay Hills (south of Auckland) for a small group workshop, where you will learn the basics of creating a fine felt around a resist, decorated with luxurious hand dyed silk fibres.

Your felt will be designed to fit snuggly onto a recycled plastic tube support and to then be brought to life with a string of USB powered seed lights.

This workshop is suitable for beginners and experienced felters - we will work through the process step-by-step, with the opportunity for more experienced felters to work on more detailed designs with the silk fibres.

Morning tea and lunch provided - please advise any dietary requirements in the comments section when you book.

What to expect:

  • When you arrive, we will settle into the studio with a freshly made espresso coffee, using beans roasted in Pukekohe at Your Local Coffee Roasters.

  • While you enjoy your coffee and some morning tea, you can take a look around the studio and choose colours from my extensive range of hand dyed silk fibres.

  • We will begin our project and I will lead you step by step, demonstrating each stage as we go.

  • While this is a process-based project (step by step), you will have complete artistic licence with regard to the design that you make on the. outside of your light tube. I will demonstrate some options and then make space for you to enjoy some creative exploration with the fibres.

  • We will take a lunch break and enjoy delicious treats prepared by Tamar from Manna & Fare (please indicate any dietary requirements in the comments section, when you book).

  • When the felting process has been completed, you will slide your fibre artwork tube onto a prepared support tube, made of recycled plastic.

  • Custom made bamboo bases and USB wall adaptors will be available to purchase in the studio via bank trasfer or credit card.

  • You will take home your fibre artwork and allow it to dry, before tucking and securing the ends around the support tube to give a neat finish.
