Learning from one of my heroines

This week is huge in my felting world - it's the New Zealand Creative Fibre Festival in my home town of Pukekohe.  Today, not only did I win the National Felters Award for my exhibition entry (excited squeal! - more about that later)....but I also got to meet and learn from one of my felting heroines, Australian artist Pam deGroot.  She has been touring New Zealand over the last couple of weeks giving workshops.  I love the sense of fun in her work and the way that she plays with colour and form with spectacular results.  Her sculptural jewellery class today was a lot of fun and while I took the workshop purely to be able to meet her (it's true, I was star struck!), I have come away with a fine piece of wearable art with sea glass inclusions.

Now, I now that I promised not to spam you, but I should disclose that, since there is a lot happening in my felting world over the next few days, there is every chance that you may hear from me again #keepingitcurrent.  In fact, it's almost a certainty because on Sunday I have another workshop with another of my felting heriones, Dagmar Binder from Berlin.

After the storm

After the storm

And my exciting day was topped off by my big win!  "After the storm" is the little brother of a piece I made for my exhibition, H2O last year called "Weathered the storm or weathered by the storm".  There are shots of the process of creating this piece on my facebook page.  I laid down 18 layers of fibre in some areas!

Tomorrow I find out how my two fashion entries, including the Salvation Dress have done.  I will keep you posted :-)
